The National Physicians Cooperative (NPC) is a nationwide network of centers dedicated to preserving the fertility of their patients. Patients with cancer and other serious diseases whose progression or treatment is likely to impair fertility can receive access to the most up to date treatments and clinical research at NPC member sites. The National Physicians Cooperative will investigate ways to mitigate the effects of any disease or treatment on ovarian and testicular function and develop physician-guided tools that will facilitate communication and translation between basic research and clinical practice. Below are a variety of NPC resources including membership requirements, IRB templates, and billing resources.
About the NPC
The NPC provides a framework for:
- Nationwide referral of patients for fertility preservation procedures in their area
- Multicenter clinical research studies in reproductive medicine
- Dissemination of best practices and clinical breakthroughs
- National testicular and ovarian tissue repositories to foster research to improve fertility preservation options for men, women, and children
The National Physicians Cooperative of the Oncofertility Consortium is open to new members who meet key requirements. Members should be healthcare providers who care for children, adolescents and/or adults of childbearing age whose disease state or its treatment is likely to impair fertility. While many members will be affiliated with strong cancer centers, they may also be rheumatologists, geneticisits, oncologists, hematologists or reproductive or medical endocrinologists. They must be interested in participating in a robust two way exchange of research initiatives, best clinical practices and exemplary patient care. Members must agree to abide by the NPC Agreement and must provide all experimental procedures under IRB approval.
NPC Users Manual
This manual details the NPC Implementation phase and can be done in parallel with or after completion of the NPC Membership Documents. It can also serve as a reference for general fertility preservation programs.
The NPC provides member sites with IRB templates for a variety of different studies. This includes templates for ovarian tissue cryopreservation in adult female and children, testicular tissue cryopreservation for male patients, as well as consent and assent documents.
The NPC provides billing templates for all member sites. These documents aid sites when they encounter issues with billing or need to draft appeal letters to insurance providers.
